<p>Private-sector approaches are being widely adopted in health care, but there is little evidence to demonstrate either that they offer a better way to organize work, or that they are applicable to the provision of quality health care. Patients and health care workers describe their experiences in Medical Alert: New Work Organizations in Health Care, and their responses challenge the assumptions of private-sector advocates, with implications reaching far beyond Canadian hospitals.</p>
