The following information details a new In-Home medical alert system called the WellAware Systems for in-home monitoring of the elderly.

One of the biggest fears facing seniors is their loss of independence. Being moved from ones own home into a nursery home can strike a serious blow to ones self-esteem and self-worth. Although Nursery homes have been developed to help the elderly, often it can feel like a prison where rules and daily routines can strip the elderly of their pride. One company has taken these issues into consideration when developing the WellAWARE Systems, a total home monitoring system that hopes to help independent seniors and their families live a more independent and stress free life.

According to the WellAware Systems Site:

Wireless Sensor Array– Depending on the care setting, up to six different types of unobtrusive sensors (motion, impact, bed, door, motion/temperature and motion/humidity) are strategically placed in the living space of a WellAWARE resident to detect behaviors with regards to daily activity, sleeping patterns, showering, and possible emergency events such as falls and leaving their stove on and unattended. The wireless sensors communicate the ongoing activity to the Data Manager. The diagram below shows the typical placement of sensors in a senior residence.

The WellAware Systems is another example in the ways that corporations are helping the elderly live a more independent life.
